Brexit New Rules – Travelling to Mallorca in 2021

Here at www.nordvillaspollensa.com we have put together some information for all of our clients who will be joining us here for a holiday in 2021.

As we all know the controversial Brexit deal is now in place and will take effect from 1st January 2021.

There are some changes which need to be taken into consideration when travelling from the UK to Mallorca but don’t worry, they are not at all daunting.

Always check the UK Government website for the latest information regarding travel.

Travel to the European Union will change from 1 January 2021.

Things you may need to do before you go include:

· check your passport

· get travel insurance that covers your healthcare

· check you have the right driving documents

· check your roaming limits with your mobile phone provider

Passports: check if you need to renew

You may need to renew your British Passport earlier if you’re travelling from 1 January 2021.

On the day you travel, you’ll need your passport to both:

· have at least 6 months left

· be less than 10 years old (even if it has 6 months or more left)

If you do not renew your passport, you may not be able to travel to Spain. You can quickly and easily check that your passport will be valid for your travel dates by following this link:

Entering Spain

At border control, you may need to:

· show a return or onward ticket

· show you have enough money for your stay

· use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens when queueing

· Visas for short trips: you will not need one if you’re a tourist

· Always check before you leave for any delays or disruption.

Health Insurance

From 1 January 2021 you may not be able to use a UK-issued EHIC to access healthcare in Europe.

Some people can apply for a new UK EHIC that they can continue to use from 1 January 2021. People who can apply for the new card include:

· UK students studying in the EU

· some British State Pensioners who live in the EU and their families EU nationals in the UK

To find out if you are eligible for a new EHIC card from 1st January 2021 follow this link for more information:

Remember: An EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance. Take out travel insurance before your trip.

Driving

You may need extra documents from 1 January 2021.

You might need an international driving permit (IDP) to drive in some countries but this does not apply when driving within Spain. Always check with your car rental provider exactly which documents they will need on arrival at your destination so that you can take them with you.

If you’re taking your own vehicle, you will also need a ‘green card’ which you can request from your car insurance provider and a GB sticker to place on your car.

Mobile roaming: free roaming may end

From 1 January 2021, the guarantee of free mobile phone roaming throughout the EU will end.

You may face charges when using your phone abroad, including for making calls, sending messages or using the internet so it is important to check with your phone operator to find out about any roaming charges you might get from 1 January 2021.
